A new journey~

I have a bit of a life update / career shift to share… I’ve been accepted into Peace Over Violence’s Counselor Advocate training! Excited to go deeper + further within myself to use my empathy as a gift. I have my own boundaries for the trauma I choose to share, but as a child, I grew up in an incredibly violent & abusive household. As I’ve come into adulthood, healing/releasing has become central to my wellbeing. Over the next 10 weeks I’ll be undergoing my training to become a trauma-informed counselor advocate for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, intimate partner stalking, and other issues relating to violence.

Once I complete my training, I will be providing emotional support, advocacy, information and referrals via the 24-hour L.A. Rape and Battering Crisis Line. I will also be assisting LAPD law enforcement to act as a secondary responder and assist survivors and children with immediate crisis intervention, restraining orders, shelter placement, resources and advocacy within LA County. I have felt called to work in the social welfare space for a long, long time – so I am incredibly grateful to begin that journey with Peace Over Violence!
As I reflect on my childhood, my mom did an incredible job of making my + my sister’s life as “normal” as it could be in a chaotic home. She had no support and became a single mother with little resources. Starting this training + line of work is very important to me, because I often wonder and worry about the children growing up in abusive homes. I’ve always carried tenderness in my heart because of my past + hope that I can help someone feel a little bit safer. If you have read all of this, thank you. 💜 If you’re experiencing some of these issues, you are not alone:
