The morning you move across the country to start your new life as a college student should be exciting, but for one incoming freshman, it was memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Katelyn Darrow, 18, woke up in her New Jersey home on Wednesday to drive to the airport, where she was supposed to catch a flight to California. But when she walked outside, she realized the rear windows of her family’s car had been smashed and personal belongings had all been stolen — her clothing, camera, textbooks, and more. Her “entire existence was in those three suitcases,” she told NJ.com.
